Nestled among the towering evergreens of British Columbia’s stunning Gulf Islands, this custom-designed cabin showcases the perfect marriage of contemporary design and natural integration. Built with our custom panelized prefab construction method, this project demonstrates how modern building techniques can deliver exceptional quality while respecting the sensitive ecosystems of BC’s coastal regions.

A custom cabin is hidden in the trees of one of BC's dense forests

The exterior features clean lines with durable charcoal vertical siding that weathers beautifully in the coastal climate, complemented by warm wood accents around the windows and entrance. The thoughtfully designed wrap-around deck extends the living space outdoors, creating an ideal platform for taking in the forest views. Solar panels integrated into the roof design reflect a commitment to sustainable living—an increasingly important consideration for Gulf Islands properties where traditional utility connections can be challenging.

Inside, the cabin exemplifies the sophisticated aesthetic that’s possible with today’s prefab cottage construction. The open-concept living area is bathed in natural light from expansive windows that frame views of the surrounding forest. Light wood flooring in a contemporary wide-plank style flows throughout the space, while the painted tongue-and-groove ceiling adds subtle texture and visual interest. The kitchen showcases how custom prefab homes in BC can incorporate high-end finishes. Its white shaker cabinetry, marble countertops, subway tile backsplash, and stainless steel appliances are all thoughtfully integrated to create the desired look; one that seamlessly blends a modern, clean aesthetic into its natural surroundings.

A spacious living space located in British Columbia

While creating the floorplan, our clients wanted a design that was simple and compact to minimize cost per square foot, while getting the most of every inch of their living space. The wrap-around decking was also a priority, as this cottage would primarily be a space to visit in the summer. This covered outdoor space flows into the open concept main living area that combines a kitchen, dining room and living room. The centre of this space surrounds a charming fireplace, providing an abundance of warmth. The opposite side of the cottage includes the primary suite, a study that doubles as a guest suite with it’s Murphy bed, and a bathroom between them, complete with luxurious heated flooring.

Customized to fit the property, the Gulf Islands cottage’s elevated foundation system is a practical solution for building on the region’s sloped, forested lots. This approach minimizes site disturbance while providing level living space and protecting the structure from moisture. This is a critical consideration in British Columbia’s coastal environment. The efficient construction timeline associated with prefab building methods also meant reduced impact on the surrounding ecosystem and neighborhood during the build process.
