7 Spring Home Maintenance Tips to keep your home running smooth all year-long.

Spring has officially sprung!

After a long dark winter, spring is an opportunity to feel sunshine on your face and warm wind in your hair. Spring is not just a time to enjoy the beautiful flowers outside and the early stages of your yearly veggie garden.

Maintaining a home goes beyond dusting and vacuuming. When is the last time you checked your weather stripping or your roof vents? How about the last time you cleaned out your dryer vent?

It’s time to dive into our 7 Step Spring Maintenance Checklist to ensure that your Pacific Home is well maintained and functioning home year after year.

  1. Cleaning Gutters

Poor or improper drainage can cause water damage to your home. Grab a ladder and check your gutters for all of that winter debris. Try to remove as much as you can by hand or with a wooden spoon to help scoop. You can then remove any leftover gunk with a garden hose. It is always nice to give the exterior of the gutters a nice scrub to keep them glimmering throughout the summer.

  1. Wash Exterior Windows

Keep those gorgeous views from the interior of your home and clean that winter dirt and grim off the exterior windows.

  1. Inspect the Roof

Your roof is your home’s first line of defense in protecting your home from the elements. It is important to visually inspect the roof, looking for signs of warping, cracking and loose shingles or flashings. Any damaged areas should be taken care of right away by a licensed roofer.

 

  1. Inspect seals around windows and doors

Maintaining the integrity and energy-efficiency of the home is extremely important. Cold weather moisture can cause seals around windows and doors to loosen or crack. Take the time to inspect each area for damage and make the repairs as needed. This will help reduce your heating and cooling costs in the future

  1. Clean Faucets and Showerheads

Unscrew the faucet aerators, sink sprayers and showerheads, and soak them in equal parts vinegar and water solution. Let them soak for an hour, then rinse with warm water.

  1. Clean out that Dryer Vent

A clogged dryer vent can be a fire hazard. In order to clean it, disconnect the vent from the back of the machine and use a dryer vent brush to remove lint. Outside your home, be sure to remove the dryer vent cover and use the brush to remove lint from the other end of the vent line. Also, ensure that the vent cover flap is maneuvering correctly.

 7. Get that BBQ fired up! 

Spring is a time to fire up and clean that BBQ. Your grill may have collected dust during fall and winter. Whether you have a charcoal or gas grill make sure to help clean ensure a long life for your grill. Is there anything better than grilling food in the spring and summer months?
