Our 60 Year History of Innovation

This month, on May 19th, 2019, Pacific Homes and Pacific Truss celebrated our 60th anniversary as a company. We are proud to have provided our customers with exceptional service while focusing on innovation in multiple industries throughout our history. I have decided to dive into our history to see how we have maintained our competitive advantage as innovators throughout the company’s 60 years.

1959:

Ken McKinnon founded Pacific Builders’ Supplies Ltd. in the Cowichan Valley, BC.

1963:

We purchase the first delivery truck for Pacific Building Supplies Ltd.

1967:

Pacific Builders’ Supplies expands to a new location due to an increase of demand.

1969:

Ken McKinnon founded Pacific Truss, which makes it the oldest truss manufacturer on Vancouver Island.

1981:

Ken establishes Pacific Homes and delivers the first prefabricated home package to site in Terrace, BC.

1986:

Pacific Homes ships its first home shipment across the Pacific Ocean to Japan and, as a result, sparks an international market that still exists today.

1987:

Pacific Building Supplies Ltd. becomes one of only four building supplies stores in Canada to pioneer a computer system. The computer system was created for engineering and drafting in the truss division.

1991:

Pacific Homes began selling its unique pre-insulated walls that were later named the Pacific SmartWall®.

1995:

Ken Mckinnon officially retires after owning the company for over 35 years, meaning that the business is then handed to Ken’s three sons, David, Wayne and Grant.

1998:

The company purchases Truline Truss, located in Creston, BC. This was to expand volume in order to meet a continually growing demand.

2003:

We build a new truss plant on location in Cobble Hill with state-of-the-art technology including a computerized linear saw, lasers to guide precise construction and a conveyor system to maximize efficiency. These innovations ensure higher quality trusses than competitors provide.

2006:

Pacific Homes and Truss build a new shipping warehouse, including a new loading bay to increase the ease of loading both local and international home and truss shipments.

2012:

A sales office opens in Langford, BC. Because of its nearby location, our Project Specialists can better serve customers throughout the greater Victoria area.

2018:

Similarly, a new sales office also opens in Abbottsford. Project Specialists from this location can, as a result, better work alongside customers from the Greater Vancouver area and the rest of BC’s mainland.
